Guillermo Podestá is a Research Professor at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences. He is active in the development and testing of algorithms to estimate sea surface temperature (SST) from satellite-based infrared radiometers, such as the AVHRR and MODIS instruments. Because of his earlier training in Agronomy, Dr. Podestá has been involved in studies of interannual and multi-decadal climate variability and agriculture. He has led various projects exploring applications of climate information to improve decision-making in the agricultural sectors of Argentina and the southeastern United States. His current interests include the modeling and understanding of complex coupled natural-human systems, and decision-making under risk and uncertainty. He is very active in the design and implementation of “climate services” − defined as “the timely production and delivery of useful climate data, information, and knowledge to decision makers.”
